Brenda Weavers

I first found patchwork in 2009 when I went to buy some wool in my local patchwork shop. I then had a one to one within the shop and made two small blocks, log cabin and railroad. This got me hooked and started my love of cutting up material and sewing back together again. But as Lynne Edwards says, it's fabric art. My husband was alive then and encouraged me to join an evening monthly group to learn more techniques. I did this for the next 6 months but had to take a break to look after him until unfortunately he passed away. I started again a couple of months later and joined another patchwork group. I am so glad my late husband encouraged me as patchwork and quilting has been my life saver! It is so therapeutic. I subsequently joined the Quilters Guild in 2011 and have met so many lovely people. I enjoyed taking part in challenges which I have done over the past few years with the traditional group. My preferred patchwork style is hand applique and foundation piecing. The photo attached was the first block of the month I managed and by the time I got to the last block I said thank goodness but I am very pleased with the result. As I said I enjoyed the traditional group get togethers and challenges but now my role as Coordinator for the region 9 my aim now is to carry on the good work done by Melanie Missin! No pressure then ! I look forward to meeting ma y ore lovely people over the next 3 years.
